At about 10:30 a.m. Friday, Maplewood police responded to a home circuit court about a report of the death of an adult man. That led to authorities searching for a woman, believed to have committed suicide, and her three children.

Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher called it a “probable triple homicide” Friday night. He said he believes all three children are under the age of 5.

“There is nothing more tragic than the loss of young children,” says Fletcher. Authorities at the scene said they would release more details at a media conference on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities have yet to release the names of any individuals involved. Maplewood Police Lieutenant Joe Steiner said Friday night that family members had been notified, and several appeared to have been at Lake Vadnais Friday night to monitor the search.

Lake Vadnais is located on the western side of the Vadnais Heights suburb of Ramsey County, about a mile from downtown St. Paul about 10 miles north.

Authorities from multiple agencies were involved in the search Friday night.

Steiner said the woman’s car was found near the lake around 4pm.
