AMD rumored to increase Ryzen AM4 CPU lineup with new 3D V-Cache & low-end chips

AMD doesn’t finish AM4, that’s confirmed but what exactly does the red team plan to do with the platform moving forward? Well, the answer would be to extend it with more Ryzen CPUs with 3D V-Cache and low-end options.

AMD’s AM4 Longevity Plan: More Ryzen 3D V-Cache and Low-end Options Working?

Had various rumors about what AMD is planning with its AM4 platform now the company has introduced its AM5 platform. The AM5 platform is the way forward, providing Ryzen 7000 CPU with Zen 4 Cores and supports DDR5/PCIe 5.0. But AMD knows that the majority of their user base will not switch to AM5. As such, AMD gave us a preview of what to expect on the platform with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and some mainstream Ryzen 5000 options. Based on the latest rumors, it looks like we’ll see more of that action coming to the AM4 platform in the coming months.

Loudspeaker, Greymon55, says that the rumors about AMD preparing not one but several Zen 3D products under the AM4 banner are true and more information will be available this month. Note that only Zen 3D is mentioned which means we’ll be getting new CPUs from the Ryzen 5000 family. AMD’s 5800X3D is based on the 5800X with increased cache and the same 8-core/16-thread design.

It is possible that the next additions could be based on the Ryzen 5 5600X, Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 9 5950X. We can’t say exactly which SKUs will get 3D V-Cache but the 5600X3D will be a single V-Cache CCD chip, offering up to 32MB L3 + 64MB LLC (V-Cache). In theory, parts of Ryzen 9 should have dual V-Cache CCD caches, so that’s 64MB of L3 + 128MB of LLC (V-Cache) or 64MB per CCD for a total of 192MB sets cache memory. If you also add 8 MB of L2 you will get a total of 200 MB of L3 cache.

Now, an interesting route AMD could take with the Ryzen 9 V-Cache part is to offer a single CCD with V-Cache and the rest without it to create a total of 128MB of cache. That’s still 33% more caching than the 5800X3D and should result in some impressive gaming performance numbers. But as we mentioned earlier, we cannot confirm whether such SKU exists, only that AMD may be working on it. For low-end parts, maybe AMD has a replacement plan Chip Ryzen 4000 Renoir-X with the Cezanne-X chip in the Ryzen 5000 family. Cezanne-X with 3 Zen cores will deliver better performance and give the red team a good chance to compete with Intel’s budget CPUs Alder Lake and Raptor Lake until Zen. 4 becomes mainstream.

These 3D V-Cache Ryzen 5000 CPUs will allow users on AM4 to have something new without having to change their entire platform when migrating to AM5. With that said, AM5 will also receive a Zen 4 V-Cache series upgrade later this year, giving passionate gamers the option to stick with their existing AM4 setups and use part of Zen 3D or use the full range of premium Zen 4D.
