WOODrowing in a house in South India, eating jackfruit was part of my childhood. Even today, the lightest scent of fruit brings with it nostalgia, and I never miss an opportunity to return to the snacks, curries or juicy ripe fruit that I gnawed as a child.
I have always admired this fruit because it is incredibly versatile and nutritious. It is also impressive to note that almost any part of the fruit can turn into something delicious.
I recall that my grandmother and mother used to pick up jackfruit seeds every time they cut the fruit. These seeds will then be cleaned, dried in the sun and left in a dry place for later use, like making some delicious dishes, roasting or sautéing.
Jackfruit seeds also have high nutritional value – they are rich in fiber, iron, potassium, several vitamins, proteins and antioxidants.
So think before you throw the seeds out before you eat the fruit. Here are some other reasons to include them in your diet:
1. Promotes Good Digestive Health
Jackfruit seeds are high in fiber which improves digestion, thus leading to a good metabolism. They contain both soluble and insoluble fiber; The soluble fiber plays an important role in lowering blood cholesterol and sugar level, while insoluble ones help prevent constipation. In addition, the presence of fiber keeps a person full for a long time, thus helping in weight loss.
2. Helps fight anemia
These nuts are also a good source of iron, which promotes the production of red blood cells. This in turn increases hemoglobin levels, thus preventing weakness and anemia. It also supports proper blood circulation.
3. Energy-boosting B vitamins
The B-complex vitamins like thiamin and riboflavin found in jackfruit seeds can help provide the body with much-needed energy, as well as support the overall functioning of the body.
4. Improve eye health
Among several vitamins, a small amount of Vitamin A found in jackfruit seeds can help improve eye health. It also helps prevent cataracts and muscle degeneration.

According to studies, jackfruit seeds contain a good amount of protein when compared to fruit. Thus, it helps regulate hunger levels, aids in muscle building and promotes weight loss.

6. Anti-Aging Properties
The presence of several antioxidants like lignans, saponins, isoflavones and Vitamin C in jackfruit seeds has anti-aging properties. This helps reduce the damaging effects of free radicals that lead to premature skin aging.
