Julia Budzinski, 17, died in a boating accident in Virginia, Richmond Times-Dispatch report, cite family. The details surrounding the incident are unclear. Glen Allen High School, where Julia is a multi-sport athlete, a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the Christian Athletes Association, held a vigil for students on Sunday night. .
The Blue Jays celebrated a moment on silence for Budzinski’s daughter at the Rogers Center.
“Budzinskis have been part of our Blue Jays family for the past four seasons,” general manager Ross Atkins said in a statement. “Our entire organization feels this devastating loss and we grieve with Bud and his family. I have known Bud for over 25 years and have always admired his dedication. as a father and husband. He is loved and respected by us. The entire club and holds a special place in all of our hearts.”
Budzinski left the dugout on Saturday to be with his family. Blue Jays coach Charlie Montoyo also left the game. Montoyo said he understands that everything is bigger than a baseball game. His youngest son has a rare heart defect and has undergone multiple surgeries.
“It’s not about me, but I always have pictures of my son (on my desk) because I know life can always be worse,” Montoyo said, via The Athletic. “That moment, my heart is with Bud. The match? We have enough coaches who can do their job, so that’s why my job is with Mark.
“There are good men and great men. He’s a great man. It would hurt anyone. But he’s a special kind of person.”
Mark Budzinski played baseball for many seasons. He played four games for Cincinnati Reds and retired as a player in 2005. He managed in the Cleveland Indians minor league system for a few years and joined the organization’s major league staff in 2017.
He has been in Toronto since November 2018.
