Delta Airlines allegedly offered the passenger $10,000 to get off an overbooked flight from Michigan to Minnesota, the passenger claims.
The airline is said to have donated money to each volunteer passenger get off the plane Monday morning.
Inc. Technology columnist Jason Aten wrote that he was on a flight with his family when a flight attendant asked to volunteer via the intercom.
Aten said the airline is looking for eight volunteers to provide their seats on flight is sold outand each volunteer will be given $10,000.
“If you have Apple Pay, you’ll even have money now,” the flight attendant said, according to Aten.
Aten told Fortune his team of eight didn’t take Delta’s offer because they weren’t immediately told how many volunteers were needed.

“If we had known it was eight o’clock, we would have gotten off the train,” he told the outlet. “By the time it became clear, four or five people had left.”
Another passenger confirmed Aten’s claim on Twitter.
“It’s a true story. I was on that flight!” passenger Todd McCrumb tweeted in response to a tweet from Aten. “Unfortunately, I cannot advance [sic] offer, as I was flying with my wife, who has very limited eyesight. She must have me by her side while traveling. “
McCrumb told KTVB 7 that the offer starts at $5,000 but will then up to $10,000.
In a statement to The Hill, a Delta spokesperson did not say whether the incident occurred, but it did say that compensation is provided to ground personnel when situations like these occur.
“That compensation gives our employees the ability to ensure that our overbooked flights can take care of customers and ultimately dispatch or get our planes out on time. “, the spokesman said.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian apologized in a LinkedIn post on Thursday for the recent flight delays and cancellations.
“If you’ve been experiencing delays and cancellations recently, I’m sorry,” Bastian wrote. “We’ve spent years establishing Delta Air Lines as an industry leader in reliability, and although the majority of our flights continue to operate on time, this level of disruption and uncertainty is unacceptable.”
