The scientists behind the study found that blood pressure readings dropped after 20 weeks of exercise.
Over the course of their study, participants performed 10 hand-held exercises three times a week for eight weeks.
At the time of writing, the researchers said: “The results of this study indicate that isometric hand-held exercises improve resting systolic blood pressure.”
What’s more, the results also show that one of the body’s major arteries becomes more flexible thanks to the exercise.

How to lower blood pressure
There are several ways someone can lower their blood pressure.
These include lifestyle changes and medications.
Lifestyle changes include:
• Cut down on salt intake
• Eat a balanced, low-fat diet
• Stay active
• Cut down on alcohol consumption
• Weight loss
• Drink less caffeine
• Quitting smoking.
