If you’re still not sure if you should pick up the DLC, even after play demo game, we’ve rounded up the reviews so far. We also had our own review in the making, so keep an eye out for that. And if you’re curious – here are the patch notes:
With that said, let’s see what critics have to say about this next chapter in Monster Hunter Rise.

Starts with IGN, it summed it up as having some interesting new monsters but not many new ideas. It tied for a score of eight out of ten compared to the original game but gave the DLC one less – the prize for it seven out of ten:
“Sunbreak isn’t nearly as dramatic or surprising as Iceborne’s for Monster Hunter World, lacking fresh ideas beyond smart AI followers restricted to single-player hunts and even dropping the Rampage questline. without really trying to fill the void their absence has left.”
Research team at Polygon enjoyed the DLC, but felt it should have jumped straight into the new Monster content:
“With so many good quarrels in Sunshine, it’s frustrating that it fell victim to one of the biggest villains in AAA video games: bloat. I want to see more Sunshine offers a shorter campaign, is more focused on new monsters, and gives me the option to fight High Rated versions of the original roster at my leisure. But instead, I spent the opening hours of the expansion beating familiar enemies, just so I could get the good stuff. Thus, play Sunshine It feels a bit like opening an interesting gift covered in too much tape. “
PC Gamers gave the computer version 89 out of 100. It claimed that Rise was “as good as the series ever has been”, but noted how the DLC is essentially “more like” and may not offer enough content. “new” for some fans. :
“Monster Hunter Rise is as good as the series has ever been, and Sunbreak is much more like it. It’s also a lot harder, but it feels like the right call. For some fans of the series, you can add 10 points on the score. It doesn’t lack the thrill of the new, even if some of its additions are more important than the first one, and basically works like a fancy end game suitable for an expanded experience.”
Hunters at Twinfinite feels “everything old is new” in the Sunbreak DLC – commend it with a 4.5 out of 5 and recommend it as an “absolute no-brainer” for anyone looking to re-learn:
“As it stands, Sunbreak represents the best of Monster Hunter Rise, recreating the text of the base game through a clever integration between the old and the new. It won’t convert hardcore fans abandoned Rise, but for those who love the changes to the Monster Hunter formula, Sunbreak represents a new high-water mark for the series and is an absolute no-brainer for anyone. want to go back.”
And last but not least, Mako . Reactor gave it 10 out of 10 – labeling it “absolutely essential” to current Monster Hunter Rise owners:
“Sunbreak elevates and improves Monster Hunter Rise in every way. The monsters are tougher, the music is a lot better, and the game’s post-production is really good for multiple hunts. The new mechanics even add more. Even if Capcom doesn’t make a single title update, it’s essential for every Monster Hunter owner. Rise. That’s great, and I can’t wait to spend hundreds of hours on it in the next year or so.”
