You’ll be able to drag photographs out of Google Maintain into the Android app

At I/O 2022, Google announced that they are updating more than 20 first-party apps for Android tablets and other large screen form factors. Besides the visual redesign, this includes multitasking optimizations like the ability to drag images between apps, which Google Keep for Android currently supports.

To begin, has Google Keep and another app, like Gmail, open side-by-side in split-screen mode. If your note has an image, press and hold it for a second until it pops out and then take it to another app.

Google Keep also supports dragging images into it (as in the last section below). We’re seeing this “easy image insertion” capability roll out widely with version 5.22.242.00.90 of Google Keep for Android. We tested it on Android 12 tablets (Samsung) and some Pixel phones.

At the system level, this feature is not new and available from Android 10, while Google introduced it onstage in May with Photos, there’s a nice interaction where a dragged photo is transformed into a thumbnail. Unfortunately, Gmail doesn’t seem to support dragging attachments into other apps.
